Rachel Mara brand moves easily from work to play. Designer Rachel Gorenstein has come to fashion via a wildly diverse career that's taken her around the globe and into many different artistic spheres, eventually landing in Vancouver, Canada. Born in Winnipeg to a family of five children, she watched closely as her mother launched a line of clothing imported from Morocco in the mid-'80s.
Yet Rachel Gorenstein did not choose to follow in her mother’s footsteps for many years. After studying fine arts in Manitoba and Pasadena, California, she went on to pursue a career in the highly-charged world of advertising art direction in San Francisco. On a hiatus, Rachel Gorenstein went to Morocco and designed a few pieces for her mother out of the rich fabrics she found in the Northern African country. She was hooked. By fall 2001 she had launched her first line, consisting simply of knit T-shirts, which eventually evolved into a full collection of fresh, sensual clothing with surprise inspirations for every season.
