Colorado native and nature lover, Dana Van Daele, the designer behind Grey Sunshine, brings a Western flair to the contemporary accessory market with her line of handbags and clutches. Daele’s interest in the fashion industry began at a young age, and with a keen eye for style she has always been the go-to-girl for helping friends, family and clients look their absolute best.
Daele’s career in fashion began after graduating from Kansas State University with a degree in Apparel Design. While studying and working in Los Angeles, California, she lent her design skills to mainstream fashion lines including Allen B. Shwartz, and eventually transitioned from apparel design to handbag design. It was within accessory designs that she found her true passion. After years in LA, Daele moved to New York City to attend The Fashion Institute of Technology in order to study Accessory Design. During this time in NYC, Daele was able to develop her own personal style – a unique blend of modern trends and a touch of Colorado-inspired Western style. Naturally, this brought her back to her home state of Colorado and Grey Sunshine was born.
The name “Grey Sunshine” comes from two of Daele’s favorite things: a favorite grey tee-shirt that she often wears and her ambition to always be where the sun is shining. “Grey Sunshine” is a way to find strength and happiness, even on the darkest of days.
The line of handbags and clutches are made strictly from leathers and fabrics found in Colorado, including Elk, Deer, Buffalo, Llama and Cow hides. All of the bags have a natural, rugged appearance combined with Daele’s hand done weaving, lacing and braiding. Her bags can be worn everywhere and anywhere – from a day on the ranch to a night out on the town. Daele puts her heart and soul into each and every bag and hopes that the wearer loves them just as much as she does.
