Founded in 2007, Goldyn started out as a Denver-based online boutique carrying a curated mix of “it” brands and up-and-coming designers. The intention, as set forth by owner Vanessa Barcus, was to make apparel and accessories by more independent, forward-thinking designers accessible to everyone outside of the obvious locales like NYC and LA – and in particular her home state of Colorado. Having spent several years in LA, Barcus came back to Denver and was frustrated by the lack of more “directional” options when it came to shopping. Hence, Goldyn was born.
Fast forward to 2011: After receiving recognition for Goldyn from editors at Lucky, Marie Claire, Refinery29, People StyleWatch, The New York Times, and other national publications, Barcus felt it was finally time to open a brick and mortar store in Denver. In May 2011 Goldyn opened its first boutique in the Lower Highland neighborhood of Denver at the newly renovated Olinger mortuary building. Stocked with an array of contemporary designers (now including both women’s as well as men’s) such as Helmut Lang, Mara Hoffman, Alexander Wang, Current/Elliott, Pamela Love, J Brand and Vince, as well as an assortment of local Colorado designers, Goldyn has become a shopping destination for those in the know.
The well-edited shop, which also stocks jewelry, shoes, books, art prints and other curiosities, is strongly enmeshed in the local Denver fashion scene. In addition to mentoring and supporting local designers, the store also plays host to community events each month ranging from designer trunk shows to fashion shows, charity benefits, concerts and artist exhibits. Local fashion editors have taken note, garnering Goldyn awards such as 5280 Magazine’s Top of The Town 2012, Westword’s Best of Denver 2012 and 2013, and 303 Magazine’s Boutique of the Year 2012.
